“It takes a community to feed our community”
For 10 years our community has ensured that all families and children receive a Sunday meal by giving their time, effort, and money to the annual Empty Bowls fundraiser sponsored by the Hunger Coalition. Empty Bowls allows the members of the coalition to ensure that families and children receive a meal every day of the week in our communities.
The Hunger Coalition was created in response to the growing issue of hunger in Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas. The Hunger Coalition consists of the Second Harvest Community Food Bank, Inter-Serv, the Open Door Food Kitchen, and Catholic Charities.
Empty Bowls is a soup-sampling fundraiser for the coalition in which area restaurants bring their signature soups for the community to vote on their favorite. The luncheon at which the soup is served and the community members vote is held in May at Wyatt Park Baptist Church. There are many wonderful local restaurants that give through their contributions of soup and staff who serve it.
In order to make this event a success it takes the combined effort of members of the community who each contribute in many different ways whether with their valuable time, contributions or money.
We would like you to consider helping be a part of the community that helps to feed our community. There are many ways to do this whether it is a contribution of time, product or money.
Please see view this website to learn more about ways you can be involved and become part of the community.
